How to start your solutions programme

Stage 1

Martin Shaw of Reliability Solutions will perform a very detailed 2 day GAP Analysis of all the key areas in the factory which affect Internal Failure levels and Customer Fails and provide formal executive report of all weak areas and proposed solution driven projects. For example, the key areas defined below would be covered in the exec report ;

  • Methods used for DFM assessments and how the reports are used
  • How Design Quality levels are Measured and Controlled
  • How Failure Prevention using Design FMEA (DFMEA) is applied
  • Process Control methods applied and if they are suitable
  • Quality / Reliability Test Reporting , is it sufficient to control outgoing Reliability ?
  • Reliability Test Methods employed, are they sufficient ?
  • Reliability Prediction tools used and how appropriate they are for the customers product line
  • The link between process Yield and Early Life Failure Escape Levels

The executive report will define expected overall Process and Reliability improvement levels possible from implementation of each or all suggested improvement projects to provide a very clear level of Return On Investment and the time frame required to effect such improvement and cost reductions

Stage 2

Plan a detailed Continual Improvement programme and define each Key Project with all Measurements defined where appropriate (Reliability levels, Process KPI’s to minimise escape of early Life Fails, % Design Quality Maturity, MTTF levels, etc). The measurements are a fundamental part of the improvement projects to drive project teams to successful completion. Set Company / Corporate targets to achieve each 6 months as part of the Continual Improvement programme with Cost Savings expected from Improving Reliability and Reducing Manufacturing Process and Field Failure Levels

Stage 3

Set up formal review programmes at regular intervals where Martin Shaw will visit the company to oversee progress of each Key Project and if projects are meeting the weekly / monthly targets set up in Stage 2
